Reflect was rad. Wish I got to see them.
I'm sure you already have Abandon and Mourningside. How about Maintain from Mass and Against All My Fears from Chile, I believe?

Re: Recommend current bands playing 90s style hardcore
i recommend that people STOP trying to play 90s style hardcore.
musically, that was a very bleak time. and by musically, i mean technically. sure, there was more feeling in the music and blah blah, but how many times did you hear the same fucking drum beat and intro and chugga part... we progressed. regress? no way!

Sure there was all of the stereotypical chug (which I do still love), but there were also a ton of bands playing such varied styles of hardcore at the time.

the chokehold CD was like, 4 riffs, but I can still listen to destroy the machines and get stoked.

Re: Recommend current bands playing 90s style hardcore
oh you can totally say the same thing for 80s type hardcore bands. if i hear one more band that i mistake for Infest or Negative Approach...
i guess i would just rather hear someone ripping off Left For Dead than Morning Again. personal preference. its hard for me to see 17 to 19 year old kids playing a style of music that i was into when i was 17 (like 15 years ago hahaha)
i guess that makes me old. "these kids today"...
and yes, it was a serious post. expect a lot of head scratching comments from me on this message board. i wasnt called "the meanest guy in OC" for no reason.

Re: Recommend current bands playing 90s style hardcore
If someone pulled off 90s throwback well I'd be into it ...
Dudes who played in bands back then and are doing new bands now have a cool sound to them ... its just their style. 17 year olds trying to play 90s hardcore doesn't do it for me.
Although I AM up for completely ripping off Abnegation if anyone wants to get down with that idea.

I can definitely understand that, and feel that way myself a lot of times. I just don't see it much here in Portland, so it's not something that bothers me as much. A majority of the 17 year olds here are just into bad wigger core stuff.
As far as the 90s core sound is concerned, I definitely prefer to hear bands that are able to take influence from those bands, but make it their own instead of simply emulating what they've heard. Unrestrained gets the tag of 90s sounding, and I don't mind that at all. It's just a very organic sound for us given our age range of 29 - 34, and we never try to be anything but completely honest with the music we put out.
Re: Recommend current bands playing 90s style hardcore
if im gonna be in a band that sounds like 90s, its gonna be Third Eye Blind
Re: Recommend current bands playing 90s style hardcore
mourningside, xibalba, unrestrained, parasitic skies....all ragin' contemporary bands playing 90s-style 'core.
and my band envision is a shameless damnation ad worship band: http://envisionannodomini.blogspot.com
be forewarned, everyone fucking hates our demo. listen at own risk.

Weird, all i've been listening to this weekend is Sown In the Remains and Stone strikes the Cedar demo, band was too fucking good right up until Iggy split. His vocals were insane, pure swallowing glass madness.
Make that band happen man, if i didn't live on another continent i'd do it in a second.
Re: Recommend current bands playing 90s style hardcore
I was singing in a sxe band here in Argentina (southamerica). It was called EL ETERNO ENEMIGO. We were influenced by outspoken, mouthpiece, unbroken, 1134...
www.myspace.com/eleternoenemigo
There was a time (I think it was 2006 maybe?) John Coyle was singing at the New Age fest with out tshirt..we were very happy seeing those pics..
if anyone had filmed this show please let me know!!!
also there's a lot of bands in Chile who are playing 90's hardcore...

I love your avatar. That Ironside 7" is probably in my top 5 7"s ever, recently found it in a record store when I went to Omaha and got super stoked. Definitely a really underrated 90's hardcore band.
