most important records of the 90s?
Not necessarily the ones that you feel changed the musical landscape, but the records that had some sort of impact on your life.
Here's my list:
Nirvana - Bleach
Helmet - Meantime
Quicksand - Slip
Undertow - At Both Ends
Unbroken - Life.Love.Regret
Sick Of It All - Scratch the Surface
Strain - Here and Now
Backside Disaster - Coming of Iad Urorobos demo

In no particular order:
KISS - Double Platinum (not a '90s album but it is the album responsible for making me a KISS diehard in the '90s)
411 - This Isn't Me
Rollins Band - The End Of Silence
Triggerman - Dead Like Me
Life Of Agony - River Runs Red
Liz Phair - Exile In Guyville
Soundgarden - Superunknown (BY FAR my favorite alternative/grunge album of the '90s)
Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty (I had all but given up on the Boys after Check Your Head and Ill Communication but then they came out with this and I fell in love with 'em all over again)
Speak Seven One Four - Knee Deep In Guilt
Third Eye Blind - s/t (I have lyrics from one of the songs tattooed on my upper right arm)

Pearl Jam - Ten
411 - This Isn't Me
Snapcase - Steps EP / Progression LP
Battery - Until the End
Mouthpiece - What Was Said
Nirvana - Insecticide (not because its my favorite, but because when I heard it, it showed so many different sides of the band and music to me all at once)
Hot Water Music - No Division
Faith No More - The Real Thing (1989, but really 90-91 was when this album had its day)
Bad Religion - Stranger Than Fiction / Recipe For Hate
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Don't Know How to Party
Trial - Foundation EP (everything is great, but that record resonated with me first)
*honorable mention for shits and giggles, this thread made me go back and listen to Green Jelly which made me laugh, cringe, and bust up a ton.
there's more, but that's a broad enough spectrum of my fucked up listening habits

I loved that record when it first came out as Green Jello. Sucked they had to change their name.
Re: most important records of the 90s?
I actually saw 'em in '89 when they were still Green Jello. "Anarchy In Bedrock" is what sold me on 'em.xjustinx wrote:Jon wrote:

actually, I'd like to add two more records to mine...
snapcase - lookinglasself (my introduction to 90's hardcore)
strongarm - advent of a miracle (i'm not a christian but this record is very intense. great vocals patterns and fantastic guitar riffs)

Vegan Reich "hardline" 7"
Inside Out "no spiritual surrender"
Burn "s/t"
Turning Point "it's always darkest before the dawn"
Insight "what will it take" (even though it was originally on soulforce in 1989)
Unbroken "life love regret"
abnegation "extinguish the sickness"
Lifeless "s/t"
and every Starkweather record!

Forgot one...
Shelter - Perfection Of Desire (I'm as anti-religious as they come but if someone put a gun to my head and forced me to claim a religion, Krishna would definitely be it)

Re: most important records of the 90s?
I see Raver Bob has joined this board. What a guy!
Of course, these records are personal and not intended as some be all-end all list of what's important.
For me though, it's probably:
Fugazi, "Repeater"
Quicksand, "Slip"
Rollins Band, "The End Of Silence"
Public Enemy, "Fear Of a Black Planet"
A Tribe Called Quest, "The Low End Theory"
Earth Crisis, "Firestorm"
Undertow, "At Both Ends"
Soundgarden, "Badmotorfinger" (got me out of hip-hop and back into heavy music)
Deadguy, "Fixation On a Co-Worker"
There's so many more, but I think that makes for a decent list that immediately comes to mind.
