Very Distro gone?!

just heard about this last night. apparently very distro is no more. does anyone else know anything about this? i'm saddened by this news. i loved ordering stuff from them. and they gave you so many extra goodies with your orders.

I've been meaning to make a post about it for roughly a week now.

i loved Very in the days before webstores. i just used to put in order after order. they would have those paper update sheets since the catalog came out so infrequently and i loved reading through the descriptions and just buying random crap based on them. once they went to the online ordering i almost never bought anything from them. it was just so much more convenient getting to read the descriptions of all the releases right there on paper. and they could sell me on almost anything by just saying it sounded like Morning Again or Strife or whoever.

yeah, they died a few months ago.

honestly, i'm amazed they stayed around as long as they did.

they had a lot of internal issues.

What are they going to do to all the CDs, vinyls, shirts, etc. that they are distributing?

iirc, someone "took over," and is trying to sell off the current stock.

the days of the printed catalog were so fantastic. i loved just sitting in class looking through that thing. a personal favorite was the issue where they had a shot of vanilla ice holding a copy of the previous issue. i would take a chance on so much stuff i had never heard of otherwise, based off of the reviews therein. that and the victory megazine made middle school so awesome (i actually placed my first mail order with victory from my science class in 7th grade, i got the deadwait 7", a raid cassette and the eyelid "bleeding through" 7". i still have the number memorized 18664hrdcor, hahaha nerdy.) the webstore just wasn't the same for me. too much material and the reviews just became blurbs written by the labels. it makes sense that this would happen though, considering the absolutely domineering nature of the internet and the overabundance of bands that the internet era ushered in. every time i ordered from them, they were quite kind. good distro... i will miss it.

those printed catalogs were the best...i think i still have some around here somewhere.

That's too bad. John kept that going for about 17 years!! Amazing.

I had bought so much stuff from them in the early-mid 90's. I also loved those catalogs!
