How many of you guys dig the more grungy emo bands such as Shoulder, Empathy, Split Lip, Night of Broken Glass, Enkindel, Temperance, Amulet?
who else can name bands like this?
if anyone wants to hear empathy, the blog has a post on them
and if you wanna hear shoulder, get their stuff on my blog: http://howcantheyintendtoheal.wordpress.com/2009/07/18/shoulder/
would anyone have the enkindle/empathy split they could up on here?

Re: Lets make this the Emo thread
i never heard their first release, the one youve got a picture on as your avtar. could you rip that??
Re: Lets make this the Emo thread
i couldnt ever really peg Endpoint into the emo category because i loved IN A TIME OF HATE so much.
i like Shoulder. New Day Rising was probably my favorite from that era/genre though.
when i think of emo, though.. i think of Embassy, Indian Summer, Evergreen, Frail... 7"s with the covers made from FedEx envelopes and stamps and twine and really shitty, Bill Smith see through vinyl. songs where the lyrics are just straight poetry sung by dudes with shitty bowl cuts and cardigans and high waters who would love to play the Huntington Beach Library or Che Cafe, but only if the show cost 3 dollars. moshing? never. crying? ok.
i never got into Still Life. Moss Icon was a pioneer. even later, spazzier/screamier bands like UOA and Angel Hair. THAT is emo to me. or Screamo. i wont even bother to put down what bands today are doing because to me its like calling Blink 182 "punk". who can really define it?
as the title of the fest says "more than music"

I also definitely preferred the crazier side of things- Angelhair, UOA, Honeywell.
But I also loved the stuff that was almost straight up indie rock, yet somehow connected with the punk scene- Samuel, Giants Chair, Garden Variety, that stuff is some of my favorite music ever.
Of course, the stuff that had a bit more traditional HC elements like Falling Forward and Endpoint were awesome as well.

Man since you brought up Embassy, you MUST check out A Sometimes Promise, which had common members, and also Three Letter Engagement, which is connected with the prior. Also a MUST that is beyond amazing is Swingset in June. pretty much these three bands are some of the most beautiful emo bands ive ever listened to.
Re: Lets make this the Emo thread
im from Newport, and went to high school with member of Swingset in June, etc.
it never grabbed me. bored me kinda in fact.
im really picky when it comes to this genre. a sometimes promise didnt do it for me either.
